Chat Village: Devlog 1


Hello everyone, I guess I'll post a little bit on what's going on and what's the goal of Chat Village.


As a previously quite active twitch streamer I was always fascinated by games that let you interact with your chat, however I always felt that simply providing your community an abillity to vote on polls to spawn something or activate a buff for the streamer are lacking that connection. For this very reason (and because I was bored and thinking about what to do for my main project) I decided to play around with twitch integration idea and try to give the streamer's community as much freedom as I can, while limiting streamer's abillities, forcing anyone who decides to play the game to work in unison with their viewers.

That's how Chat Village, a small sideproject of mine was born:

"First day in". 07.17.2022. Chatters can enter the game by typing any message in streamer's chat. They are provided their character that they can level up by simply chatting.

"Second day in". 07.18.2022. Chatters have a few animations and an yet untextured appearance that they'll be later able to customize by completing different tasks. On a second day they already can use a few commands such as :#attack (to attack another viewer) ,#stopattack (to stop attacking anyone),#wood (to gather wood for streamer, which also gives them exp per one point of aquired wood). They can also use #bunt to simply stand and wave a sign to show their disapproval of something that streamer does or says.


07.19.2022 -07.21.2022. Commands to collect trees and stones are added and function somewhat alright. The streamer now also has a little interface where you can see your resources, as well as buttons to see what buildings you can setup in exchange for provided resources. Chatters can enter these buildings to keep themselve save from outer world (that plans to be hostile at some point). They can also #dance now, which is cute. By pressing on Map - streamer can now also expand the game's field and give chatters more resources to harvest and more room to walk on. In the coming days new tiles will be able to spawn unique buildings/points of interest, for example a GOBLINOID MINE that will be spawning nasty goblinoids to fight off progress of your sprawling chat village. The harvesting process is also reworked. Previously chatters used an array of all resources and tried to access em one by one in the order in which resources were spawned. Now they're looking for resources that are the closest to them.

So yeah. I'm not good at devlogs, but if anyone sees this and have any questions or suggestions - let me know.
